An excellent massage can be done by applying a few simple actions. If you have a particular favourite few movements, it could be repeated numerous times during the course of the foot massage.
When you are massaging, it is preferable not to engage in any conversation so that you can concentrate and feel relaxed and allow the recipient to enjoy the hand strokes as it glides over her feet.
Be aware of the person’s general posture, whether they are feeling tense if you are pressing too hard. Be sensitive.
Always pay equal attention to both feet when you are massaging. Start on the right foot and then move to the left.
Thumb circling
Place the thumbs on the foot, one slightly higher than the other. Then, use the pad of alternate thumbs to massage the area all over the fleshy areas of the inner foot, making small rotational movements.
Stroking
Put your hands across the foot at the base of the toes. The foot is sandwiched between the hands, one hand on top and the other hand below. Use light pressure and slide your hands down the foot from the toes to the heel, then up from the heel to the toes. Repeat this movement to make the person feel relax for a number of times.
Kneading
Make your hand into a fist. Press into the sole of the foot, using the flat part of the fingers from the knuckle to middle joint. Turn the fit as you press, so that you can make a slight rotational movement.
Foot Rotation
Wrap your fingers around the top of the foot near the toes and use your other hand to cup the heel. Rotate the foot clockwise then anticlockwise. Repeat action. This technique helps to relax and loosen the ankle joints. Be careful with patients who are suffering from diabetes or arthritis.
